On Android and iOS
Given that both Android and iOS have a native Gmail application , applying this method becomes less necessary. However, in case some compatibility error disables the Gmail application, this is a very useful trick that you can apply.
Let’s see next:
- On Android, open your browser Chrome.

and enter your email and password - Once you access your inbox, press the Chrome options menu, indicated as three dots in the upper right corner.
- Look for the option “Add to main screen” and press it.
- Once this is done, the system will create a shortcut to the email tray, which will be located on the main screen of your mobile device. It is possible to perform the same procedure on iOS via Google Chrome.
Nevertheless, keep in mind that the default browser for Apple devices is Safari, so the process varies from browser to browser.
With this in mind, here are the steps to create a shortcut with Safari:
- Sign in a Safari e Go to the Gmail web page.
- Once there, press the button “Share”.
- In the drop-down menu, press “Add to home screen.”
- In the pop-up window that will open, you will have the possibility to edit the name of the shortcut.
- Press the button “Add”.
It’s that simple, and this way you will have the Gmail icon as a shortcut available on the main screen of your iOS mobile. It should be noted that, if at any time you want to modify it, it will be necessary to delete it and carry out the process again.
On Windows and MacOS
This functionality is very important for computers, due to the fact that Gmail does not have a native client for its service.
So if you want to be able to access Gmail directly from your desktop, you just have to follow these steps:
- Sign in to the browser Chrome on your PC.
- Sign in to the web portal of Gmail.
- Enter your credentials access (email and password).
- click Over the three dots in the upper right corner to open the options menu.
- Choose the option “More tools.”
- click on “Create Shortcut”.
- In the pop-up window that will be displayed, check the box “Open as window” and, if you wish, you can modify the name of the access.

In case the available browser is Safari on MacOS, the procedure changes slightly to adapt to the different configurations, both of the browser and the operating system:
- Open your Safari browser in go to the page of Google.
- Select the URL of the website and drag it to the desktop. This will create a shortcut without information.
